Our Approach to Optometry
We diagnose and manage glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye, astigmatism and diabetic eye disease as well as many other eye conditions and diseases. We also prescribe Ortho-K lenses and hard to fit contact lenses. We also emphasize wellness care and eye disease prevention.
Comprehensive Eye Exams
We offer comprehensive eye exams that test your visual acuity. We also check for glaucoma and any other potential eye diseases. Our eye doctors recommend eye exams at least once every two years. Individuals who wear prescription glasses or contacts should schedule an exam annually. If you need a prescription to correct your vision, we offer contact lenses and glasses as well as Ortho-K.
Hard to Fit Contacts from our Eye Doctor
If you have a severe astigmatism, dry eye, GPC, keratoconus or presbyopia, we may be able to fit you with contact lenses. Certain eye diseases can make the process of fitting contact lenses to your eye more difficult. Eye diseases like astigmatism and keratoconus can result in the shape of your eye being significantly different than a normal eye. This results in the need to accurately diagnose your eye condition and prescription needs, while finding a pair of contact lenses that fit your eye properly without causing irritation. Our eye doctor can accurately diagnose your vision problem and find contact lenses that fit your eye.
Ortho-K, a non-surgical alternative to LASIK, from our Optometrist
Ortho-K is a special type of corneal retainer that is worn at night. These lenses are specially designed to adjust the shape of your eye as you sleep. It is effective at treating astigmatism and nearsightedness. In some instances, it may even help individuals who are farsighted and eliminate the need for reading glasses. Our doctors will examine your eyes and custom design retainers based on the shape of your eye.
At home, you will insert the retainers at night, sleep with them and remove them in the morning. As you sleep, your eye will adjust to the shape of the lens, which affects the way light enters and is focused on the back of your eye. In the morning, you will remove the lenses and place them in their containers. You will not need to wear glasses or contacts during the day to correct your vision, and the effects last between 24 and 48 hours. When the retainers are worn nightly, vision correction is continuous. New studies show Ortho-K’s effectiveness at preventing nearsightedness in children.
